Kes’ Take —
From Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 to Avowed, the roleplaying won’t end this month!
I hope everything else in your life has ceased to exist, RPG fans! You’re going to need to have all the time in the world if you want to play every game in the genre releasing this month on Xbox Series X|S. It all started with Warhorse Studios’ Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, which I regard as one of the defining RPGs of the generation so far alongside Baldur’s Gate 3 and Elden Ring.
The original game was one of my favorites, but it had its problems. The immersive sim components and the realistic medieval Bohemian world are double the trouble in the sequel and a lot of the problems of the first game have been ironed out. With incredible writing for the story and characters as well as gameplay that incentivizes player agency, this is an easy GOTY contender for me!
That’s just the start of February, though. I mean, look at this for our selection of upcoming RPGs on Xbox!
Every RPG for February 2025
Are you not entertained by the notion of all four of these? Avowed is looking sensational and, for those of you who don’t love the grounded world of Henry of Skalitz, a great high-fantasy RPG. Looking colorful and bright, Obsidian has arguably managed to be the most consistently high-caliber developer of recent times.
Fallout New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity, Outer Worlds, Grounded, and Pentiment are such a good run of games it makes me sick. With its gorgeous looks and commitment to allowing you to pick your path, I think that Avowed could be something incredible. Plus, it’ll be on Game Pass Ultimate. Good stuff!
Then we have a JRPG to clean the palette further, though I think we can safely say that action RPG might be the better descriptor for Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. It looks like big, bright, dumb fun set on the Hawaiian islands. It certainly looks like everything you could want out of a spin-off — silly ideas with your favorite characters done well. We’ll see if it can live up to it on release, but I’m optimistic.
We round off the month with Monster Hunter Wilds. Capcom has been on a roll over the Xbox One and Series X|S generations. This latest action RPG will no doubt sacrifice the lives of many gamers in return for incredible battle systems and beautifully made creatures. Monster Hunter is its own genre at this point and you can bet the community will be all over it on launch.
I think the depth of these releases is staggering. There is something for everyone here and all the games are coming from reputable developers and publishers. It’s wild to me that all four are released in the same month. I have a suspicion that Assassin’s Creed Shadows did very well to get out of the way of this steamroller of quality RPGs!
That’s my take on February, but I’d love to know which games you guys have your eyes on for the month. With Avowed amongst the upcoming Game Pass games for the month, I feel like that’s the best bet for most of you! So, get down there and tell me your thoughts, feelings, and role-playing preferences! See you there, TrueAchievements community!
